Zines (pronounced “zeens”) are as American as Common Sense (Thomas Paine, 1776). The 1950s had sci-fi fanfiction zines, punk in the 70s & 80s, and an explosion of zine self-publishing in the 90s, covering poetry, personal writing, food reviews, cats, health, feminism, race and racism, and everything you could put from pen to paper. If you have something to say and feel like sharing it with others, let’s do it. The expected student outcomes are growth in agency and written communication. Basic materials will be provided, but bringing magazines, ads, or art to cut and paste is encouraged.
